If you’ve seen a photo of yourself recently and wished your teeth were whiter, you wouldn’t be alone. The team at Kuraby Dentists are experts in cosmetic dentistry, and we know how important a white smile is to a person’s self-confidence. Professional teeth whitening is a great way to enhance your appearance and improve your confidence. So whether you need an affordable cosmetic treatment or you’re looking for ways to help your teeth look their very best, professional whitening is an excellent choice.

Take-Home Whitening Kits

If you’re looking for convenience, you’ll love our professional take-home whitening kits. The team at Kuraby Dentists will take impressions of your teeth to create a form-fitting custom tray. Simply fill each tooth reservoir with a drop of concentrated bleaching gel and wear your trays for about an hour a day. You’ll see full results in just 10-14 days.

Candidates For Teeth Whitening

Before you undergo any whitening treatment, your dentist will ensure your gums and teeth are completely healthy. If you have visible restorations in your smile zone, they’ll need to be switched out afterwards as the material won’t whiten alongside your teeth. Whitening is most effective against stains on the teeth, which are often caused by;
  • Naturally dark enamel
  • Certain types of medications (such as tetracycline)
  • Smoking
  • Tea, coffee, red wine, and other dark liquids
  • Environmental factors

Should You Choose Veneers Or Whitening Treatments?

Teeth whitening and veneers are two very different procedures, so you need to consider which is right for you.

  • Is it just the colour you want to change? Teeth whitening is ideal if you’re happy with the appearance of your teeth, but you’d like them a few shades whiter. However, if you have chips, old fillings, or discolouration, you might want to look at getting a set of veneers.
  • Are your teeth worn down? Without enamel, whitening treatments cause unpleasant sensitivity with no reward. So it’s often better to get veneers if there’s no enamel to whiten.
  • How much are you willing to spend? Before deciding on cosmetic treatment, you need to consider your budget. Veneers are quite expensive, whereas whitening is far more affordable. Have a chat with your dentist to figure out which option will work best for you.
  • How long do you need the treatment to last? Cosmetic teeth whitening won’t last forever. You’ll need to do regular maintenance to keep them sparkling white. On the other hand, veneers will last up to 15 years and can be replaced as they’re chipped, stained, or broken.

The Teeth Whitening Process

The process of getting whiter teeth is pretty straightforward, and the team at Kuraby Dentists are here to help you every step of the way.

  • Book a consult and a clean. At Kuraby Dentists, we believe our patients should be 100% informed on the treatments we offer, so we’ll always get you in for an initial consultation before doing any whitening procedures. During your consult, we’ll listen to your concerns and take note of the aspects of your smile you’d like adjusted. We’ll also make sure your teeth don’t have any discolouration that whitening won’t amend. Then, we’ll give your teeth a clean to remove any tartar and plaque to give you the very best results.
  • Switch to a sensitive toothpaste. Before you undergo any cosmetic teeth whitening, we’d suggest switching to a toothpaste specifically for sensitive teeth to reduce any discomfort you may experience after your appointment.
  • Get your teeth whitened. When you come in for your appointment, our team will cover your gums to avoid any damage, and we’ll apply premium-grade dental bleach for a short time. The bleach breaks down pigmentation and stains on the enamel.
  • Apply relief gel. After your appointment, we’ll give you some relief gel to manage any temporary sensitivity you may experience.
  • Follow your dentist’s instructions. You’ll need to avoid certain foods and drinks you’ll need to avoid for a little while after your appointment. We’d suggest limiting dark liquids for a day or two while your teeth are porous after the treatment.

How To Maintain Your Results

The last thing you’ll want to do is restain your teeth after your treatment, so we’ve got a few tips to help you keep your smile bright.

  • Avoid acidic drinks. Most people think avoiding coffee or tea will keep their teeth white, but that’s not necessarily the case. While you should definitely avoid those drinks just after your treatment, you can keep drinking tea and coffee after a few days. Caffeine stains are easy to remove from the surface of your teeth, and regular whitening touch-ups will do the trick. However, acidic drinks like carbonated beverages will wear down your enamel, which is the surface your dentist whitens during treatments. Without enamel, we can’t whiten your teeth, so make sure you preserve it as much as you can!
  • Brush and floss. Brush your teeth twice daily and try to floss every day to keep coffee stains at bay.
  • Visit your dentist regularly. Your dentist will let you know how often you need to visit, so make sure you keep up with regular appointments. We’ll make sure your teeth stay clean, healthy, and bright.
  • Organise some touch-ups. If you get one of Kuraby Dentist’s take-home whitening kits, we’d suggest touching up your teeth for 3-4 sessions after each checkup.
